Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis Presenting as Bilateral Ovarian Masses in an Adolescent

Hypothyroidism can cause significant reproductive morbidity and its association with ovarian cyst formation is rare when it occurs in children, referred to as Van Wyk Grumbach syndrome. An 18-year-old girl was our emergency services suspicion of torsion USG findings she had pain abdomen vomiting 3 days duration. She provisionally prepared for laparoscopic surgery but on revaluation by bilateral thecaleutein cysts measuring 7x6.8x3.5 cms (right) 10x6.8 x3.2 (left) were diagnosed. Her TSH level 483 mI U/L . On probing revealed past history diagnosis hypothyroidism discontinuation thyroxin therapy after taking 6 months. anti TPO antibodies >1300 IU/mL. thyroid features suggestive Hashimoto’s thyroiditis. counselled started a dose 4µg/kg 2 months follow up the have regressed ovaries appeared normal USG.
